Why did you decide to come to King’s Domain?
I came because I wanted to renew my faith. I heard about it through Cru and one of my good friends had come here the year before. I wanted to do something different with my summer so I knew I would love working with kids and stepping out of my comfort zone, even though I’d never been to camp before.
Why did you want to work with children?
I love working with children! I interned at a preschool at my college. I’ve loved being able to get to know older kids and having conversations about God and pouring into them. I love being able to be there for the kids who don’t have the best home life and being that role model for them. From my past experience I knew I wanted more.
What has been one of the best things about camp life?
Being able to bond with the other counselors during camp is awesome because we get to see how all of us lean on each other and ask for help. It has brought us all closer together.
What has been one of the hardest things about camp life?
The hardest thing for me was being in the woods with bugs. I’d never been to camp before and it was out of my comfort zone. Bugs are not my thing. I’ve had to get over that fear, especially because I have campers. It has made me grow a lot.
Funniest summer mission story/moment?
When we went to Walmart and I got my selfie stick, Cassidy, Nathan, and I made vlogs with various items in Walmart. It was so much fun!
Where is your favorite place to go off camp and why?
Club Chill at Speedway (for slushies) because it’s a place everyone gets so excited to go to and it’s real cheap, nothing fancy. All of us going together make it a fun trip.
How have the King’s Domain staff helped you?
What’s helped me most is being discipled by them. They’re only a little bit older but have had more experience in their walks with the Lord and with their faith. They can help me with my campers and in my own walk with God.
How has your walk with God changed?
My walk with God has changed because it is much deeper now. I understand better how to walk with Him, trust in Him, and depend on Him for everything. Before my view of God was very compartmentalized like with church and Cru, those were the places where He existed. Being surrounded by people who love the Lord has really made God become a part of every aspect of my life.
What is unique about King’s Domain?
Every person at King’s Domain has a different story. It makes us very diverse and able to find people to relate to about almost everything, especially when talking about things we struggle with. You can find someone that has struggled with anything you have, which makes it a strong community. I’ve never met people like the staff that love the Lord as much as they do. It’s very inspiring to see the staff in those positions because they were called to it and love the Lord.
What will you take away from this summer?
When I go back to school, I will know how to be strong and steadfast in my faith and not have one foot in the world and one foot in religion. I will plant both feet firmly in Christ and let my friends and family around me know this.
What have you learned about yourself this summer?
Through teaching the kids I have learned they are God’s masterpiece and I’ve learned how to put my worth in God and not in what others think of me. It’s been encouraging for me to teach the kids as well as myself.
Would you recommend this experience to other people? Why?
Yes, because I don’t think there would have been a better way for me to spend my summer. It’s such a unique experience that you can’t get anywhere else. You get to grow in your faith so much while bonding with the kids and the college students. There are so many things that come together in this place that would change anyone’s life.
